Common GST Questions
Answers to the most frequent doubts about GST calculation.
Can I create a quotation / proforma invoice with this?
Yes. You can generate a client-ready Estimate/Quotation summary, add a client name/note, and print it (or save as PDF from your browser). For a final GST tax invoice with full legal fields (GSTIN series, place of supply, etc.), use your accounting software.
Is GST calculated on the selling price or invoice value?
GST is calculated on the transaction value (taxable value) mentioned in the invoice. If GST is shown separately, it is added to the base price (Exclusive). If the price is “All Inclusive”, the tax must be back-calculated (Reverse GST).
What’s the difference between inclusive GST and exclusive GST?
Exclusive GST means tax is calculated on top of the goods/service value (e.g., ₹100 + ₹18 Tax = ₹118). Inclusive GST means the tax is already inside the final price (e.g., MRP ₹118 includes ₹18 Tax).
Does this calculator split GST into CGST and SGST automatically?
Yes. For Intra-State transactions, it splits tax into 50% CGST + 50% SGST. For Inter-State transactions (IGST), simply toggle the 'Inter-state' option to see the full integrated tax amount.
Which GST rate should I apply — 5%, 12%, 18% or 28%?
Never guess the rate. The rate depends entirely on the HSN (Goods) or SAC (Services) code. Use our HSN Search feature to find the official government-notified rate.
Is GST applicable to freelancers and consultants?
Yes, once your annual turnover exceeds ₹20 Lakh (₹10 Lakh in special category states). Most freelance services (Design, Dev, Marketing) fall under 18% GST (SAC 9983).
